I love old movies. And what I love most about the Christmas season is the resurrection of all my favorite, old Christmas movies. One of those holiday treasures has left an echoing concept.
The film is Holiday Affair (1949) It’s about a woman, played by Janet Leigh, who is widowed by a World War 2 soldier. She and her young son are content in their lives when Robert Mitchum shows up and changes everything. The quote that stays with me is delivered by Wendell Corey, and man steamy Mitchum beats out in the contest for Leigh’s affections.
Corey says, “Anything can change a life that’s ready to be changed—a toy train, a neck tie, anything.”
While that turns over in your thought-mill, keep my favorite holiday classic in mind the next time you get snowed in.
