It Happened One Night (1934) is Everything

After a morning of running errands, I needed a movie fix, and Rhet Butler, I mean Clark Gable, came to my rescue. Is it a good thing or a bad thing that Clark Cable has become synonymous with his GONE WITH THE WIND character? I don’t know the answer to that questions, but I do know two things: great casting on behave of GONE WITH THE WIND and great acting on behave of Clark Gable.

I didn’t watch GONE WITH THE WIND, though. If I had, I’d still be watching. Instead, I watched IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT. At the 7th Academy Awards, the film became the first to win the “Big Five” and only two other films have managed to do the same since: ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST (1975) and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991). The Big Five awards consists of Best Picture, Best Director (Frank Capra, one of my favorite directors), Best Actor (Clark Gable), Best Actress (Claudette Colbert) and Best Writing.

Another interesting fact–Clark Gable’s Oscar was auctioned off in 1996 to Steven Spielberg, who paid $607,500 for it. He donated it to the Motion Picture Academy. Who said interesting information cannot be found on Wikipedia?

It was an excellent afternoon laying on the couch with my momma and the gaggle of dogs at out feet. I laughed out loud like I had never seen the movie before, and tried to be shocked as Claudette Colbert exposed her bare leg on screen (how provocative!) May the trumpet sound! Let the wall of Jericho fall!
